Reply To: Removing White Text Boxes on Pages

Well, the white box you are referring to is the content area. Any builder (be it SiteOrigin, Beaver, Visual Composer, Elementor, Divi, Pootle, Rocket Builder or some other) will work only on content-area.
Now different themes have different layouts ofr content-area.
Some have a full-width content-area. Some have a right-sidebar-left-content area layout. Some have a left-sidebar–right-

The theme you are using has only one layout for content-area. Everything you build will have to be build on that area only.
One thing you could do tommake the page look full-ish is to use widgets in your sidebar..this is missing from your website.

Try flushing any caching plugins you might be running, as well as server and/or browser caches. Not just your browser, but any op cache or content network cache as well such as Cloudflare. If your host provider has a “Purge Varnish” option or if you can ask your provider to flush memcache on your server. If you are using SiteLock, please follow these steps to manage your caching:

  • Login to your SiteLock dashboard.
  • Click “Settings” on the left of your screen.
  • Near the middle of your screen click “TrueShield Settings” and select “Performance” from the menu that drops down.
  • In the Performance section locate the large red button labeled “Purge Cache” to clear your site cache.

Update

Changes and correct menu now appear on the home page, but still no admin bar.

The page that got taken over by WP Theme 2011 and which you can’t reach any more from the Home page’s mysteriously fixed menu (so here’s the link to that page) has changed. It appears to be using my custom CSS now, which it wasn’t doing before. The page’s menu is simply an unordered list without the Vantage theme’s CSS, and the menu is not the most recently saved version.

It’s starting to look like changes to some (not all) pages and posts just take a day or two to work their way from the back end to the front.

“Could not insert term into the database” when trying to add category

I’ve not been able to create new categories or menu suddenly and whenever I tried to do that returned a message “Could not insert term into the database.”

Google search one thread suggested DB optimization plugin but did not work. Another one (https://www.reddit.com/r/Wordpress/comments/5iroaa/could_not_insert_term_into_the_database/) advised 3 things to do:

1) go to phpmyadmin then in Structure make sure AI is checked. Mine was not checked so i checked it, then tried to create a new category but now returned a message, “some error occurred. Please reload the page.” I reloaded and the same message came back.

2) “stop playing in PhpMyAdmin and remove it from your server.” I have no idea what this is about.

3) in Operations, set the number for auto-increment to be higher than your highest term_id. After I set the number and click on Save, an error message showed up at the bottom,

“Notice in .\tbl_operations.php#155 Undefined index: row_format

Backtrace”

My site is still localhosted on my notebook. I reinstalled WP from scratch then imported the database and files but that did not help, either.

Hope all this makes some sense to someone here so can shed some light on my problem. Thank you.

How to change information on WP

[ Moderator note: moved to Fixing WordPress. ]

I want to change something on my WP site but can’t work out how. At the bottom of this page (see link) is a section called About Goreme1990. I’ve looked on the About page, my Amazon author page and through WP but can’t work out where the information comes from. Could someone have a look and tell me where I can find it?

Thanks very much.

Hello everybody,

Im working on my first site and we encounterd a strange bug that we couldn’t solve ourselfs.

The website was working fine and it still does for some of us but some are getting a weird error with all the navigation text right above each other.

This is how it is supposed to look:

At the second picture you see what i have written in my first post but that shouldn’t be ontop like that.

Is this some scaling problem or anybody knows why we encounter this problem and how to solve it ?

It looks like there is something not right with your wp-includes/formatting.php file.

The “Headers already sent” error is usually because there are spaces, new lines, or other stuff before an opening <?php tag or after a closing ?> tag. Have you made any changes to this file? One easy way to make sure everything is back to original is by replacing that file with one from a fresh download of WordPress.

Congratulations on making your own theme, that is certainly the best way to learn!

If you are interested in learning how to make plugins, I would start with the WordPress plugin handbook.

I am using para.llel.us Salutation theme. You are right, I tested the same codes with twenty-seventeen and they worked.
Why do you think different themes affect them?

As an update here, I checked it with Disable Real MIME Check, and my suspicions were right. These images are not recognized by the media library as image files, so can’t be used for a lot of purposes.

As everyone is only having issues with non-image files, is this due to a problem on my end, and not WordPress itself?

Help here would be much appreciated.
