when you view the database, do you see the username & email address listed or the account you are trying to use? Are you 100% certain the spelling & capitalisation are correct?

Need more info. Which theme are you using? Usually, you change the page template to 'showcase' template. Or the name of the template that holds blog posts. For Twentyeleven, this is 'showcase template'.
